Uganda Equator

Uganda equator is one of the most well known landmarks in Uganda. It is where the intersection of the earth’s surface occurs with the plane perpendicular to the earth’s axis of rotation and also containing the earth’s center of mass”, but it is still the imaginary line that divides the world into two halves. Therefore the Equator is an imaginary line that is seen on maps marking the equidistant from the North and South Pole. In order to prove this an experiment is done in which along the imaginary line of the equator, a magnetic needle which has no dip stabilizes in perfect horizontal position. At the equator sun rises and falls rather so fast with equal days and night lengths. The people around the equator experience only warm temperatures and tropical climate throughout the year.
Equator Location
It is located in Kayabwe which is in Mpigi district about 72 kilometers from Kampala city, the capital of Uganda. The poster for the Uganda Equator can be found on Kampala Masaka road 420 kilometers from Kampala. Markers of the equator can also be located in Kasese district within the Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The movement and drainage of the water will differ from the Northern and the southern hemispheres at the Equator line in the demonstration of the carioles effect. It is at the equator line where you will see water drain straight down. The movement of water changes direction suddenly to the left or right when moving on a rotating body like the earth. Pressure weather cyclonical systems perform this sometimes, having a clockwise rotation in the north and a counter clockwise in the southern hemisphere. At the equator, a show man ship is used to stimulate the effect. That is while in the northern hemisphere, the water will drain down the hole in a clockwise direction yet take the counter clockwise direction as it drains from the southern hemisphere down the hole.

The lighter experiment while at the Equator?
Along the equator, anyone’s weight will be less by 0.5% hence gravity is 0.5 % less at the Equator. It is attributed to the earth not being a perfect sphere. One can be a few tons of kilometers lighter as one moves away from the center of the earth while standing at the equator unlike when standing at the poles hence gravity is slightly less at the equator.

What else to do at the Equator?
A number of structures have been set up around the area of the equator with so many amazing crafts and art pieces from the craft shops. Tourists can get themselves a number of products from the gallery antique and at the Aid child gallery plus enjoy a tasty meal and coffee at one of the restaurants.

How do I get to the Equator?
The drive to the Equator takes you from Kampala city to Kayabwe in Mpigi district which is a 72 kilometer drive along the Kampala Masaka road. And can cost you around 4-6 US Dollars.
